Implementing Safe Adventures. Programme Update.
We have the privilege of working with over 30 HEIs across Wales, England and Northern Ireland to explore how we implement the recommendations in the Safe Adventures report. People have asked us what the programme is and how it all works so we’ve pulled together an overview of what it is and what we’re working on, here...
The programme started in July with a Shaping Session where ‘supporting organisations’ (students’ unions and university sports departments’ came together to share what they wanted to prioritise in the programme. This informed the priorities for our work together.
This way of working is how we landed with the Safe Adventures report - collectively. This model of consultancy is really powerful and something we are loving at Organised Fun. If we were to do this much thinking and working on an individual SU or sports department’s practice, we would need to charge thousands of pounds. This way, each organisation has contributed under £2000 to get access to the programme. They get to work with us on solutions but crucially, can work together. Sharing learning, looking at common practice and where things could go based on comparison with other institutions. It’s great.
What are you actually doing though?
The programme has 4 activity cycles, running from October 2026-March 2027. Each cycle we have 4 meetings covering the programme priorities chosen by participating organisations:
Competence
Risk and operational procedures
Technical advice
Reporting
In week 5 we have a Programme Management Group where we feed in all the actions from the previous meetings and check-in on bigger picture, whole programme stuff. Then in week 6 we have no meetings (so we can catch up on admin!) but programme organisations can book a 121 with us to talk through any detail.
The outputs of each cycle depend on how the discussions go and what everyone thinks we need to do. We’re creating a briefing on Reporting, we’re working on guidance about working with technical advisors, we’re meeting NGBs to talk about their relationships with student groups. They’re fairly wide-ranging.
Can I join in?
We aren’t taking any more organisations into the programme as we are already rolling and don’t have capacity to onboard anyone else. If you’re interested in the work and want to chat about it, please email us (info@organised.fun).
We love this model of consultancy and would love to continue more of this sort of thing in the future. Let us know if you have an idea for what we do next!
How can I stay updated?
We will continue to post about the programme here on the blog and on Organised Fun’s LinkedIn. If you have specific questions or ideas then email us directly. info@organised.fun
