National Societies & Volunteering Awards 2022 〰️

Nominations for the National Societies & Volunteering Awards 2022 are open from Weds 13th April to Wednesday 11th May 2022. Nominations close at 12 noon. Any nominations submitted after this time will not be counted.

Longlists will be announced on Monday 16th May 2022

What we are looking for across all categories:

  1. All categories are open to volunteering projects and societies

  2. Innovation - what’s new or different about your nominee(s)? They don’t have to have done something completely new, but we love to see a different angle on an existing project or a new approach taken by a team

  3. Impact - what difference did the group, individual, event or project make? How did it benefit the students involved and how did it benefit the cause they work on?

Frequently asked questions

How and when will we know who has won?

The longlist will be announced on social media and the NSVAs website on Monday 16th May 2022.

The Shortlist, Runners Up and Winners will be announced on the 15th June 2022 at the Awards Ceremony, held at Sheffield Students’ Union. If you can’t make it, we will be sharing the results live on social media.

How are you making sure the judging process is fair?

Each award has a judging panel made up of sector experts and student representatives. There are at least 3 judges for every category.

All judges will inform the rest of the panel of any vested interest in any nominee. So, for example if the judge is involved in some way with the society or volunteering project they wouldn’t get to vote on that category.

Writing a good nomination

Tell us what the nominee did so that the judges understand the context, but spend most of your word limit telling us about the difference they’ve made – what happened because of this society, volunteering activity or the person you’re talking about?

  1. Talk to people who are involved – society members, beneficiaries of the project, the SU team, the people you work with – what do they think will make your nomination stand out?

  2. Give us evidence to back up what you’re saying

  3. Consider how the event, activity, committee or the individual involved went above and beyond

How will you decide the winners?

Stage 1:

All nominations reviewed by the NSVAs Team and scored based on how well they meet the criteria.

Stage 2:

Longlisted nominations are sent to the judges for review, and the judges select their favourites based on the criteria and anything that makes your nomination special.

Stage 3:

The judging panels will meet to decide on the shortlist, Runners Up and a Winner for each category

Why is there a character limit on the nominations form? We have loads more to say!

We want the judges to be able to read every nomination and therefore we need the nominations to be short and sweet. We also don’t want the nomination process to take too long for you – you’re busy people!

Who can submit a nomination?

Anyone – you can nominate for yourself, your project or your society. Students’ union staff and sabbatical officers can make nominations, university or Student Hub volunteering staff can submit nominations.

How many nominations can we submit?

As many as you like! However, we prefer quality over quantity…

If I get everyone in my society, volunteering group, or all my friends to nominate, will we win?

In short, no.

We would prefer one well-thought out and meaningful nomination than hundreds. We will combine any nominations for the same person, project, or group into one entry anyway. We won’t give extra credit if we get multiple nominations for a specific project.

When does our activity need to have taken place to be eligible for an award?

To be eligible for the NSVAs 2022 you need to be referring to activity from March 2021 – March 2022. Societies and volunteering projects hand over to new committees at different times and some great things will happen just after the nominations close.

For example, if you organise an amazing event in April 2022, you won’t have the opportunity to make a nomination for the NSVAs in 2022 but you can nominate that event for the NSVAs in 2023.

Do we have to be affiliated to NUS or a member of SVN to nominate?

No – Organised Fun are organising the awards with support from NUS and the Student Volunteering Network. Both have extensive networks of members and we hope many get involved.

Any society, volunteer, volunteering project or committee can nominate and win the NSVAs.
